Evelyn Murphy made history in 1987 as the first woman elected to statewide constitutional office in Massachusetts, serving as the 67th Lieutenant Governor under Governor Michael Dukakis from 1987 to 1991; she also served as the Commonwealth's Secretary of Economic Affairs and Secretary of Environmental Affairs.

In 2003 she founded The WAGE Project, a national nonprofit dedicated to closing the gender wage gap, whose salary-negotiation workshops trained tens of thousands working women and young women about to graduate from college throughout the United States how to get paid what they’re worth.

She holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics and a Ph.D. in economics from Duke University and a master's degree in economics from Columbia University, and currently serves as Board Co-Chair of the GK Fund, Co-Chair of the Boston Women's Workforce Council, and Co-Chair of the Wage Equity Now coalition, a driving force in passage of the Frances Perkins Workplace Equity Act.

Author of Getting Even: Why Women Don’t Get Paid Like Men and What to do About It, she is the recipient of eleven honorary degrees, the Eleanor Roosevelt Following In Her Footsteps Award, Boston Chamber’s Pinnacle Award for Lifetime Achievement, BBJ’s Women Who Mean Business, and more than one hundred local and statewide organization awards.
